Victor Appleton
Victor Appleton Pen Name
The interesting thing about the Stratemeyer Syndicate is how many famous series they produced under a number of pen names, like Victor Appleton.
Tom Swift is the most famous series produced under the Victor Appleton name, and like the other series “written” by Victor Appleton, ghostwriters were hired to write the stories from outlines.
Victor Appleton II
Tom Swift was popular enough to spawn a second series. The Syndicate in 1954 decided that Tom Swift of the original series had a teen-age son that took after his father in inventing.
This second series was more space-age related than the original (which featured airships and other inventions appropriate to its time period).
Like the character of Tom Swift, the author also developed a son, Victor Appleton II, but like the original pen name, this person did not exist in real life.
