Like that other series by Carolyn Keene, Nancy Drew, the Dana Girls solve mysteries.

Produced by the Stratemeyer Syndicate by ghostwriters working under the pen name, the Dana Girls follow the adventures of Jean and Louise Dana. Started in 1934, the series has the girls engaging in some amateur detection while attending the fictional Starhurst School for Girls in Penfield, near their hometown Oak Falls.

The stories have a recurring bully, Lettie Briggs, the wealthiest girl at Starhurst, and shadow, Ina Mason. The Dana Girls must deal with the problems of teen life in a school with bullies and solve whatever case has come their way.

Like the Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and Bobbsey Twins, the books had revisions in later editions, although not as drastic of changes as some series.
